APM SIGs come together for you at Knowledgeshare 2009

Venue: UCL, Gower Street, London, WC1E 6BT
Dates: 28 and 29 May 2009

The APM runs several Specific Interest Groups (SIGs) covering development and dissemination of key areas of the APM Body of Knowledge. The role of the SIGs is to provide a forum where members and their guests can discuss a particular aspect of project management that is of current interest. These groups help further the understanding and practice of project management tools and techniques within the defined area of interest.

In May, four of the SIGs, in association with the APM London Branch, will coordinate their events at a single venue, University College London, to allow delegates to move between tracks and increase networking opportunities.

The following tracks are currently planned:

Thursday 28th May

Project and Programme Assurance SIG tracks

• Success criteria for good Assurance
• The role of Assurance in the Heathrow Terminal 5 project
• The role of Assurance in the Channel Tunnel Rail Link project
• The role of Assurance in the new Wembley Stadium project
• Assuring Governance (Joint session with Governance SIG)

Governance SIG tracks

• Directing Change - The Governance of Project Management
• Co-directing Change - Governance of multi owned projects
• Sponsoring Change - Guide to project sponsorship
• Assuring Governance (joint session with Assurance SIG)
• Project Governance case study

 In addition to the above tracks, the APM London Branch will be offering the following sessions:

• Growing capability through mentoring
• Project Management in the 3rd sector

Friday 29th May

Planning SIG tracks

• Alternative approaches for planning tools and techniques
• Latest planning software developments
• Delay analysis - Black Magic?
• Defining the roles - Planner, Scheduler, Monitor, Analyst
• Major Project Planning

Programme Management SIG tracks

• Projects, Programmes and Portfolios - Why do we need them ?
• Programme Management in the real world
• Short Debate: Do Big/Major Projects exist, or are they just Programmes by another name?
• Stakeholder management - what works and why
• Portfolio management in the real world - case study
